Dr. Helen Isaac
Research Scientist
 

Helen Isaac has been with CREWES for 6 years. She specializes in seismic data processing, interpretation and modelling, with special emphasis on the integration of geophysical and geological data, and converted-wave processing.

Helen received her B.Sc. (honours) in Mathematics from Imperial College, London, in 1973. She followed that with an M.Sc. in Geophysics, also from Imperial College, in 1974. She worked in the oil industry as an interpretation geophysicist with Phillips Petroleum Co., Hudbay Oil International, Canterra Energy Ltd. and Husky Oil Operations Ltd. In 1992 Helen came to CREWES to do her Ph.D. with Dr Don Lawton on reservoir monitoring of heavy oil cyclical steam stimulation at Cold Lake, Alberta. She then worked for the Fold-Fault Research Project for 14 years.

Helen has been a very active volunteer with the CSEG, serving as second vice-president in 1999, director of Educational Services in 2000, Outreach committee chair from 2003-2007, and Recorder assistant technical editor from 2001-2006. She currently serves on the CSEG Foundation Board of Directors as chair of the Communications Committee. Helen's other activities include singing in the Calgary Philharmonic Chorus for 30 years and the Calgary Bach Society choir for 5 years. She is an honorary member of the Calgary Ski Club, being actively involved in the organization of the Lake Louise Loppet. She also volunteers with the Calgary Performing Arts Society, the Honens Piano Festival, WordFest, and U of C Alumni. She enjoys cross-country skiing, hiking, music, flowers and art.
