SH wave modelling by a staggered-grid method
Zaiming Jiang, John C. Bancroft, Laurence R. Lines
Theory and technology of a staggered-grid finite-difference method on SH wave modelling is reviewed. The ingredients of the modelling method, including finite-difference scheme, seismic sources, free-surface boundary conditions, and computational boundary conditions, are discussed. In addition, modelling results are interpreted to investigate the advantages and disadvantages of the modelling method, and to demonstrate some processing and interpolation related wave phenomena and seismological principles, such as guided surface waves, the problem of seismic resolution, geometrical spreading, and seismic multiple reflections.
